Located just 15 kilometres from the airport is Trapani’s city centre. The old city’s narrow streets and historic buildings trace their roots to the medieval period, with much of the city evoking Baroque designs. Highlights within the old city include the 14th century Church of Sant’Agostino and the Church of Santa Maria di Gesu, which was built between the 15th and 16th centuries. Built between 1315 and 1332, the Maria Santissima Annunziata basilica was rebuilt in 1760 and features a beautiful marble statue of the Madonna of Trapani. Magnificent public spaces include the Fontana di Tritone and the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, while the Baraoque Palazzo della Giudecca and a the 15th century Cathedral are not to be missed.

Outside Trapani, your rental car is ideal for experiencing Sicily to the fullest. From the bustling port, you can take your rental car on a ferry to explore ports throughout the Mediterranean, including Tunis and the sunny beaches of the Egadi islands. On land, drive to the hilltop town of Erice to board a cable-car for stunning mountain and sea views amidst Norman fortifications. Or, drive your rental car on day trips to enjoy nearby beaches at San Vito Lo Capo and explore Greek ruins at Segesta. Both communities are en-route to Palermo, Sicily’s largest city. For destinations closer to the Trapani, drive along the coast to beaches in Marausa Lido and Lido San Giuliano. Also nearby is the 17th century Tower of Ligny and the Museo di Preistoria e del Mare, a museum dedicated to prehistoric artefacts found in the region and seafaring Greek, Roman and Punic cultures. In Paceco, visit the Museo del Sale. This salt pan and mill closed following floods in 1964 and was converted into a museum dedicated to the region's salt production and refining heritage.
