About Bari

A hire car in Bari is useful for exploring the Adriatic coast, travelling between city districts and heading inland across Puglia. On Rent.it, you can compare offers from different rental companies and choose a collection point that fits your arrival and onward journey.

How can you compare car hire on Rent.it?

Enter your collection location, dates and times, then compare vehicle categories, prices, included services and rental terms. Rent.it is a booking broker: the company named in your reservation supplies and manages the vehicle. Check the office location against your accommodation and include any additional charges in your comparison.

Where can you collect a hire car in Bari?

Bari Airport (BRI) is the main option for travellers arriving by air and continuing straight to other parts of Puglia. See the dedicated page for information about collecting a vehicle after your flight.

Bari railway station is another option if you arrive by train or want to start driving after spending time in the centre. For city collection, check the actual office address: a Bari location does not necessarily mean an office in Murat or within walking distance of your hotel.

If you arrive by sea, consult the Bari Port page. Confirm the collection address and any meeting arrangements in the supplier’s instructions; do not assume that a vehicle will be handed over at your ferry terminal.

What documents, payment cards and deposit are required?

Bring your original valid driving licence, identification and a payment card accepted for your chosen offer, usually in the main driver’s name. Check whether your licence also requires an international driving permit or a translation. Debit and prepaid cards are accepted only with certain offers: check the card type, network and available funds needed for the deposit.

Deposits, excesses, cover, minimum age, surcharges and mileage vary by supplier, location, vehicle and offer. Read the vehicle details and rental terms before booking. Paying online does not remove the requirements that apply at collection.

Which vehicle suits Bari and the surrounding area?

A compact car makes manoeuvring and parking easier in central districts. For a group with luggage, check boot capacity rather than choosing by category alone. Select automatic transmission if required. With an electric vehicle, plan charging stops and check charging options at your accommodation.

What should you know about driving and parking?

Murat and the seafront can form part of a city visit, while Bari Vecchia is best explored on foot after parking legally nearby. The old town has a restricted traffic zone, known as a ZTL. Hiring a car does not grant access; if your accommodation is inside the zone, ask how any vehicle registration procedure works.

Do not assume that every parking area near the Castello Svevo is open to visitors: some spaces are reserved for authorised users. Check signs, charges and payment instructions in regulated parking areas. For a longer stay, consider AMTAB Park & Ride facilities after checking their services and connections.

Where can you drive from Bari?

Head south for Torre a Mare, Polignano a Mare and Monopoli, or north for Giovinazzo and Trani. Alberobello and the Itria Valley offer an inland itinerary that is better planned separately from a full day on the coast. Altamura and Matera, across the regional border in Basilicata, are further options.

The SS16 is a key road for coastal journeys and the Bari bypass; the SS96 serves the route towards Altamura. Choose junctions for your destination and check traffic and roadworks before setting off. In historic towns, plan to park outside pedestrian streets and restricted zones.

How should you plan your return?

Confirm the return office, time, fuel policy and any out-of-hours procedure. Airport collection with city return, or the reverse, must be offered by the supplier and may carry an extra charge. Allow time for bypass traffic and the vehicle inspection before your onward departure.
