Chile has an incredibly diverse landscape within South America

Chile brings together some of the greatest scenic views that South America has to offer. Its borders are the great Andes and the Pacific Ocean which shape the country’s incredible diversity of landscapes in its 4,300 km coast. Once the traveller has decided on their route, travelling by car is a great way to see Chile’s spectacular and ever changing coastline. 

Santiago is the capital of the Republic of Chile and is located in the Maipo Valley. It is surrounded by mountain ranges and is located in central Chile. Santiago is an excellent starting point because the traveller will have access to explore some of the major cities and regions that Chile has to offer from the Atacama Desert in the north to Patagonia in the south. No matter where you are vehicle reservations can be made in most major cities.

A possible route in the northern region could be the popular Wine Route. On this route are upscale restaurants, the largest museum in South America called the Colchagua Museum and of course plenty of places to partake in famous Chilean wine in the Cashapoal Valley. The old harbour town of Valparaiso that is nestled on the hills and is a must see. In the far north is Arica. This is a stunning region of slopes contrasting grasslands and the location of the Lauca National Park. San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway to the Atacama desert. 

On the southern road, you can travel to Puerto Natales, Puerto Montt and the remote settlement Carretera Austral located on the shores of Lake General Carrera. A trip to Chile would be incomplete without a visit to Patagonia which is located on the southern tip. The Patagonia National Park is a truly spectacular experience where the natural environment will take your breath away.
