Finding your way to major cities and islands
On arrival at the airport, you get to choose between public buses, taxis or car rentals to take you to any location on the main island. Puerto Rico’s motorways are referred to as autopistas and spread out covering all the major routes from San Juan. If you choose to rent a car the car rental companies usually offer a map if you need one. Travel time to Ponce, from San Juan for example is shorter if you use the Las Americas Expressway. However, if you wish to drive, one is required to have a valid driving license. It is also important to note that driving is on the right hand side of the road just like in the US, the distance markers are in kilometres and the road signs in Spanish.
