Constanța is a city in Romania with about 300,000 inhabitants. Located on the western shores of the Black Sea, it is famous for its thermal baths and its beaches that attract a large number of tourists every year. Of ancient foundation (it dates back to the Persian Empire), the city - which at the time was called Tomis - was later annexed to the Roman Empire. The city was later called by its present name in honour of Constantia, the half-sister of Emperor Constantine.
